MAIDSTONE

The town of Maidstone is in central Kent and has been the official and legal centre of Kent since the 18th Century. Maidstone is approximately 38 miles from central London and the river Medway runs through its very centre. Our Maidstone solicitors conveyancing have found that Maidstone and the wide county of Kent are popular commuter locations for those working in London.

There is evidence of settlements dating right back to the Mesolithic era in Maidstone. Archaeological evidence has been found of Prehistoric animals, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman and Saxon settlements in and around the town. Maidstone was granted a royal charter in 1549, however lost and regained it’s title several times over the years.

Still today, Maidstone is known as a major agricultural market town due to the prevalence of orchards, hops growing and vineyards in the area. Maidstone’s industrial heritage lies in brewing and papermaking industries. The latter of which are known locally as “treacle mines”.

Local stonework which features in the architecture of Maidstone and the county of Kent comes from the mining of local limestone known as Kentish Ragstone. This beautiful stone was also used in the building of Hampton Court, Eton College and the Tower of London. If the property you are considering purchasing falls under a listed building category, you may need to factor this into the cost of conveyancing solicitors in Maidstone. Regardless of the specifics of your property transaction our Conveyancing solicitors Maidstone are on hand to help you.
